no-one interviews Christopher Kelly

What background made you to become a fashion designer?
CK:
I have loved clothes ever since I was an 8 year old making paper towel sweaters for my action man. Illustration was probably the main cross over into fashion. Whilst studying on my art foundation we had one afternoon dedicated to fashion illustration and at that point i never looked back. After 6 more years of study in fashion design I moved to london and went about understanding this multi faceted industry. I wanted to know everything I possibly could so that one day I would be equiped to start my own label. I have had an incredibly well rounded career in the fashion industry. From independent labels in central london to established brands such as Michiko Koshino. After leaving Michiko nearly 3 years ago I have been immersed in the world of T d l M and never been happier.

How do you feel your surroundings inspire you when making a collection?
CK:
My surround is key to creating my range. My AW09 range Elixir of the Hungarian horseman was absolutely inspired by my living in Dalston, right behind Ridley road market. The influence of Ghanaian culture in Dalston has had a subconscious and direct influence of my ranges. I have lived in East London for nearly ten years now and I have always found it to be a constant inspiration.

Is there a particular art form that you enjoy which may link to your shapes and patterns or favorite artists?
CK:
I don't know if I would say there is any one particular art form that inspires shape for me. I would say I absolutely take inspiration from the art world in whatever form it takes. From Dance, Textile or architecture but this evolves every season. For my coming AW10 collection I have taken inspiration from the work of Thayaht. His approach to garment construction is awe inspiring!

If you could make anything or work with anyone - if it wasn't fashion - who would it be and what would you make?
CK: I would love to work with Wayne Mcgregor. I have always wanted to get involved somehow in creating a dance show. Wayne's show Random dance was one of the most amazing dance pieces I have ever seen. The collaboration of dance, set and music design was perfection. I would love to create the costume for a show like Random dance. A costume that completely encompassed the movement of dance yet kept its its fashion integrity. I know its still fashion but I wouldn't do anything else.

The magical world of Henrik Vibskov

Henrik Vibskov is a celebrated artist, designer and musician from Copenhagen. We have had his collections in store for several years and after skipping a season we are happy to have him back in no-one for Spring/Summer 2010 (in store from February). Below we have featured a selection of images from his unique projects and a flyer for his upcoming exhibition in Bremen, Germany – it’s a feast for the eyes and a great insight into the world of the talented My Henrik Vibskov.

VIA SNELLA COMING SOON

From quality fabrics to detail-wise patterns, all Via Snella garments breathe "feel-good" wearable fashion that combines traditional tailoring with innovative details, shapes and cuts. It's all about straying from the cut path and conveying manliness. Not trendy manliness. Just plain manliness unburdened from narrow mindedness and shallow aesthetic constraints.

"We continue our effort to build the contemporary male uniform with casual elegance and charming authenticity. Follow our endeavor to create menswear that is made to last forever."
- Via Snella

In store from Launch date 11th of February 2010

Theatre De la Mode Spring/Summer 10 collection launch

We are pleased to present another season with T D L M.

This is their 4th season and 3rd with no-one - their first being the amazingly received miniature collection on dolls.

The label has grown and now with international buyers starting to lap up Christopher Kelly's creations they are set for success.

Keeping in mind change is good they have decided not to show again this season at Vauxhall Fashion Scout but instead launch the collection during mens fashion week at our store no-one and we are more than happy to have them!

The wearable unisex designs will be a perfect first purchase for summer, cuts are simple and generous with a delightful splash of colour it will surely be a staple piece for your wardrobe.

Come along to enjoy drinks, last chance for Autumn Winter sale items and catch up with the designers.
